Under development: the Draupnir platform

The results you need, when you need them, where you need them.

Draupnir is a portable molecular biotechnology detection platform under development, built on isothermal amplification, primarily LAMP technology. Our goal is to make fast and reliable molecular testing available beyond the laboratory environment.

  • Portablethe lab in your hand
  • Isothermalno thermal cycling required
  • Built for the fieldfrom –30 °C to +60 °C*

The market

Why now?

The molecular detection market is growing fast, and the pressure toward decentralization keeps building. That is the gap we are building Draupnir for.

01

Costly delays

Shipping samples to a central lab takes time and money, while the decision often cannot wait.

02

Overloaded labs

Growing testing demand creates bottlenecks in centralized laboratory systems.

03

Decentralization

Recent animal-health outbreaks have made it clear: demand for fast, on-site molecular detection is rising.

01 / Vision

Detection beyond the lab.

Molecular detection is indispensable in many fields today, yet decision-making often still waits on a central laboratory. That is what we want to change.

The goal of the Draupnir development is a detection platform that brings molecular testing closer to the sample, to the user, and ultimately to the point where the decision is made.

We are developing a device that combines the reliability of molecular detection with field usability: compact design, an intuitive user interface, automated evaluation and access to raw data, all on a single platform.

What we are building

Portable

01

Compact design for applications outside the laboratory.

Intuitive

02

Measurement and result interpretation with minimal user intervention.

Self-contained

03

Integrates the essential laboratory instruments; data processing and evaluation happen on the device itself.

Built for the field

04

The planned operating range of the device is –30 °C to +60 °C, enabling use even in more extreme environmental conditions.

The parameters above are planned characteristics of the system under development.

Technology

Why isothermal?

Learn more about the technology

Isothermal amplification is a nucleic acid amplification technology capable of producing large amounts of target DNA at a constant temperature.

Unlike PCR, it requires no thermal cycling, which enables simpler and more compact engineering solutions.

One of the most mature methods of this approach is LAMP, loop-mediated isothermal amplification: its high efficiency and fast reaction time matter most where results are needed within a short time, directly at the point of sampling.

The foundation of the Draupnir development is unlocking the potential of isothermal amplification on an integrated platform designed around use outside the laboratory environment.

Where can it be used?

Where there is no time to send samples to a lab.

The value of fast molecular detection often lies not in the speed of the measurement itself, but in when the result is available for the decision. With Draupnir, we target environments where significant time still passes today between sampling and the decision.

Veterinary detection

In a veterinary practice, sampling is often followed by laboratory testing. Transporting the sample, processing it and waiting for the report takes time and resources. Draupnir aims to enable faster on-site decisions for certain yes/no questions.

Sampling → testing → result → decision

Less waiting. Less logistics. Closer to the answer.

Plant health detection

In plant health, rapid detection and decision-making are especially important. The presence of certain pathogens may require immediate action for plant protection, economic or regulatory reasons. The planned use of Draupnir could make it possible, after appropriate sample preparation, to perform molecular testing right at the sampling site.

Further application areas

The technology is not only relevant for animal and plant health applications. In the longer term, we intend the platform for fields where fast, on-site, low-infrastructure molecular testing creates value:

  • food safety
  • environmental monitoring
  • industrial microbiology
  • research & development
  • field sampling
  • epidemiological and public health applications

Who we build it for

Primary target groups

Draupnir's primary market is the fast-growing molecular detection market, specifically applications outside the laboratory and at the point of need.

We focus first on use cases where fast decisions, mobility and independence from infrastructure carry exceptional value.

  • 01

    Veterinarians and animal-health providers

Faster decision support directly in the practice.

  • 02

Plant health and crop protection professionals

On-site testing to support faster plant-health decisions.

  • 03

    Laboratories and research institutes

A flexible molecular testing option to complement laboratory infrastructure.

  • 04

    Industrial and food-safety operators

Faster on-site checks and decision support.

  • 05

    Environmental monitoring organizations

Molecular testing even at sites without direct access to traditional laboratory infrastructure.

02 / Our team

Science. Engineering. Real-world execution.

We are convinced that the detection potential of isothermal amplification is far from fully explored.

Orpheus Life is a project-based development team in the pre-startup phase, working on making Draupnir a reality. We combine competencies from four different fields: biotechnology, quality management and regulation, research collaborations, and engineering development with system integration.

Our goal is not merely a working device, but a technology platform that is scientifically grounded, feasible to engineer and creates value in real-world settings.
